Creative Wick Film School
In April 2016, Creative Wick, Alias Hire, a Hackney Wick based film equipment hire company and Open Vizor, with the support of the Wick Award, delivered a free film school for 12 young people from Hackney Wick and Fish Island and the surrounding communities of East London. The film school was based at Hub67.
Twelve young people with an interest in possibly pursuing a career filmmaking were given the opportunity to make a short film.
Over the course of 6 weeks students learnt about pre-production, how to use a film camera and technical aspects of shooting, screenwriting, directing, filming and editing.
Creative Wick commissioned Alias Hire and local professional filmmakers Alex Taylor and Souleyman Messalti to tutor the students through the creative process and the shoot. Alex Taylor, Vanessa Farinha and Jacob Nicholson gave editing support.
The films were then screened at a Premiere evening at Shapes attended by more than fifty members of the community together with friends and family.
